The Milkweed Mercantile at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage is an off-the-grid, straw bale bed & breakfast, organic cafe, and eco general store. Alline gives us a mini tour of the business, which is currently under construction, but opening soon. The Mercantile is currently a finalist for a $10K award at Ideablob. Why not build your own windmill? There are excellent plans out there for 1k generators. You can use old auto generators/alternators, etc. Absolutely no reason to void your community purpose by buying one.

At first I was against building with straw. however, after much research, I have changed my mind. Excellent bldg material. A wonderful way to save resources, also have shelter, and a useful space.
