My essay:
Out of the three-hundred and sixty five days in a year, people have one day to show someone they love them by presenting them with materialistic gifts. Unfortunately, many people celebrate this pointless holiday and spend money on a typical box of chocolates and store bought cards dripping with sentiments. This holiday mostly benefits those greeting card companies and stores that sell chocolate. Do people really need to buy gifts and take their loved ones out to dinner to prove they love one another? If people stopped contributing to this commercialized holiday, they would realize that doing small things throughout the year and saying I love you would be enough. Even though Valentine’s Day is meant for couples, anyone who has a loved one should be able to celebrate too. After all it is a day about love, so why specify it to couples only. If I did celebrate Valentine’s Day, my mother would be my Valentine because she means the world to me and I know I would enjoy spending a day with her that will improve our mother-daughter relationship.

When someone asks who your Valentine is, most people would say “my boyfriend/girlfriend.” If one doesn’t have a girlfriend or boyfriend they engage in the practice of asking out their person of interest. In my case, Valentine’s Day would be a family holiday, not a romantic one. A word more important than love is thanks. A word many mothers don’t hear too often. This Valentine’s day, I want to not only show, but tell my mother how thankful I am for what she has done for me for eighteen years. She is my best friend and the nicest person I have known. The small things make me appreciate her even more. She deserves more than I can give her, that’s why this day will be a special day. A mother-daughter day rather than Valentine’s Day.

Our mother-daughter day would be simple and fun but special. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, will be cooked and served by myself. The cliché breakfast in bed. I would serve her favorites; eggs, hummus, falafel, Manakish (dough topped with thyme), and a nice hot cup of tea. After breakfast we would take a nice walk in our favorite park in the cool, February morning air. We head back home to begin our favorite TV show marathons. Starting with The Little House on the Prairie, my mom’s favorite classic. Finishing with a Gilmore Girls marathon, a show about the perfect mother-daughter relationship. Later that evening we set off to dinner at our favorite restaurant called, Heider Baba. My mom loves it because it serves the best Middle Eastern food in Southern California. Stuffed bellies and smiles on our faces, we drive over to the Griffith Park Observatory, our favorite spot in all of L.A. In the chilly night air, we would watch the twinkling city lights outshine the stars.

Gazing at the stars made me realize that nothing lasts forever. It’s important not to take her for granted, because she won’t be here forever. Time fades, but my love for her won’t. Not only that but it would make me a better person. My mother is kind to anyone, whether or not they were kind to her. She never forgets, but she always forgives. My mother is my role model. If I grow up to resemble my mother, I truly am a successful person.

Emotional or not, this day is meant to express feelings of love, happiness and appreciation. Whether it’s to a boyfriend or girlfriend or a mother, father, brother or a best friend. It also gives people a chance to think about someone else for a day. So many of us, especially in today’s society, are caught up in our own lives. We sometimes forget the people around us. Valentine’s Day is a good reminder for people to think about someone other than their selves for a change. Not only is Valentine’s Day a day to show my mother how much I love her, but how thankful and grateful I am to have her as my mother. Thank her for the guidance and love she has given me that no one else would. More importantly, she gave me love and guidance without expecting anything in return.

When we first met, I worked at a parts store selling auto parts (totally not my forte), and we also sell hand cleaners and all that jazz, and I picked him up some worx hand cleaner with a couple nail brushes and a few other things cuz he always gets so dirty doing irrigation. I wrote him a poem when he wanted to know how I felt about him, (as partially stated above), I bought him a few shirts because they were on sale and they were just the kind that he wears, and I’ve gotten him this all-natural soap bar that’s a natural substitute for shaving cream and it works great. I go places sometimes and when I look around, sometimes things stand out that I think he would like, so i get them for him. Of course they’re all little things, it’s not like i spoil him with expensive gifts ALL the time, they’re kind of just little add-ins in our relationship that i like doing because..well i just do, and it shows I’ve had him on my mind. I think it’s sweet overall and I understand your opinion. While I agree that Valentine’s Day could be shared between family members or friends, not just couples, and I see what you are trying to say by saying that is overly commercialized, but Valentine’s Day’s history shows that it is held in honor of Saint Valentine. He was a Roman bishop who held secret marriages of soldiers, against the rule of Claudius II, who didn’t allow soldiers of young age to get married. Many people disapproved of this law, but Claudius II was a powerful emperor and it was Rome, so who was going to argue? But Saint Valentine decided to do something about it and not let couples give up on hopes of marriage. So this is why Valentine’s Day is originally and correctly held for couples. While I don’t think it’s strange or stupid at all for you to spend time with your Mom specially on V Day, it’s historically and traditionally incorrect to do so. I also do understand what you are trying to say by saying that people spend too much money and underestimate the value of just saying "I love you" and being with each other, since our world has become a bit materialistic, but you have to understand the significance of a holiday. This is a romantic holiday and it’s not like it comes around every day of the year, so couples choose to go out and try hard to make an extra special day for each other, without caring how much money they spend for each other. <3

But ignoring the context and just centering on the grammar and vocab and sentence structure, it looks like a A+ through B+ essay, depending on what grade you are in and if you are in an Honors class or not. But I do not agree with most of the context. I respect your opinion though, and I know it would be a pain to rewrite all that just because I say otherwise, so you should definitely handin the essay! <3

1.they sell everything in the supermarkets . everything as in cookies chips drinks . milk etc…i mean a normal supermarket.
2.en evening mea will cost u 100 le maximum .
i dont drink so i dont know what ber wine etc costs so i cant help u in that matter.
3boa trips where u hire the boat from sunrise to sunset and go fishing and snorkling costs around 700le. we go to Hurghada with friends and hire the boat and split the money. u can ask if u can cook ur fish catch. we did and it was fun.
4. banana boat glass boat pedal boat etc are y the hour,say like 150 per hour
5.i never went to a Bedouin night nor beach buggy trip to the desert but it will probably be 150-200 per person
5. bottled water of al sizes and diff brands is available everywhere . it costs 2 le ut take care if u buy it from a touristic place like hotel they can charge u much more so get it from the supermarket.

First of all bottled water is everywhere in sharm u can find it in the hotel or in any supermarekt
but buy it from the supermarket much cheaper it cost from 3-5 pounds
there r egyptian and other food in supermarekts dont worry not all egyptian food
and there r fast food resturants it costs like 30pounds to get a combo
